Here you will see an outline of the courses that I have taken while obtaining my Master's of Art's in Education Degree. The courses are laid out by Semester and Year along with a brief description of each of the courses.
Fall 2012
TE 802 Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice 1
Kristen Bieda This was my first course in my master's program. This was in correlation with my Fall semester of my Teaching Intern year and was designed to directly relate content that would enhance and strengthen my teaching practices acquired so far. This course allowed me to practice building in depth lesson plans that taught me how to connect the standard goals to the implementation of my lessons. Through this course I became better at creating lesson plans that correlated with the standards as well as provide myself with time to reflect on each of the lessons to improve in my own teaching. |
Spring 2013
TE 803 Professional Roles & Teaching Practice 2
C. Jenkins In this second course we focused more on how to build relationships with students and parents. We spent more time looking at the relational side of education and how to learn about your school culture. By learning about the school culture you are able to better understand your students and how to communicate with them and create effective lessons that will meet them where they are at. This course really instilled in me a sense of how important it was to be relational and communicate with the students and parents. |
TE 804 Reflection & Inquiry in Teaching Practice 2
Kristen Bieda This class was an extension of TE 802 from the fall of my student teaching and reflects many of the same principles within the class. While there was a similar focus in this course as there was in the precious one what was different was taking the information and applying it to our own teaching. We were able to reflect on the data and practices introduced to us and begin to allow them to shape our own teaching practices. We began the application of different methods within the classroom and allowed our experiences to shape our future classrooms. |
Fall 2017
ED 800: Concepts of Educational Inquiry
Steven Weiland & Nathan Clason This was an introductory course into the philosophical aspect of Education. This course gave me the opportunity to engage in the history of education, the different theories surrounding education, and outside factors that effect the practices within education. By being able to read, watch, and immerse myself in this information it allowed me to begin to reflect on my own practices and thoughts that revolve around education. This course challenged my thoughts and beliefs about education and the impact it has and continues to have on our world. |
TE 846 Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Lance Wheatley This course was essential to my growth in addressing students with struggling literacy learners in mathematics. This course allowed me to see the importance of literacy within mathematics and the effects that it can have. By addressing the literacy struggles of a student I was able to see the impact of strengthening these skills directly correlate to the students ability to solve math problems at a more consistent pace. This course showed me how to look beyond the mathematics and see the whole learning process of the student. By recognizing the impact of literacy to a students basic understanding of mathematics was essential to my growth as a teacher. |
Spring 2018
CEP 805 Learning Math with Technology
Ralph Putnam & Paul Reimer This course gave me my first taste of Professional Development in technology. In each of my districts I have been given technology to use but this course expanded my ability to utilize technology in the classroom more effectively. In this class I was able to talk about how technology plays a role in education in today's age and how impactful and vital technology can be in the classroom. By expanding my background knowledge about technology in education I was able to see it in a different light and begin to utilize technology in my own classroom. |
TE 861C Action Research K-12 Science Math Classroom
Andrea Varricchione In this course I was able to research and obtain information about Standard's Based grading and the effects it has on student retention and growth. Fortunately I was able to see the direct effects of SBG on my students in the 2017-2018 year. For my students, when we made the switch into a SBG system my partner and I were able to see growth within our students that we had not seen earlier in the year. The positive impact was evident for the school year and gave me a new perspective of SBG in the classroom. |
Fall 2018
TE 831 Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology
Doug Hartman Working hands on with new and different technology allowed me to feel more comfortable with utilizing technology in my own classroom. By creating my own projects through the different technological systems I was able to better understand how they work and possible glitches that students may run into. The professor was encouraging and helpful and I was able to bounce a lot of ideas off of him to help adapt the technology for my students. |
TE 855 Teaching School Mathematics
Lisa Hawley Entering into this course I was able to learn much about the process of student thinking and the effects that it can have as they develop their understanding through my own mathematics courses. By thinking from the students perspective I was able to reflect on my own teaching practices to recognize where I am thriving and where I need to take a step back and re-evaluate. I was able to specifically study one of my own particular interests, homework. I was able to research different practices and the effects that homework can have on student motivation. |
SPRING 2019
ED 870 Capstone Seminar
Dr. Matthew Koehler, Sarah Keenan-Lechel, Aric Gaunt, and Sukanya Moudgalya This course allowed me to look back. Often I forget to stop and reflect on my own learning and growth. This course has allowed me to reflect on all that I have accomplished over the last two years. It also has shown me how much information that I have obtained and implemented in my own classroom. This course has allowed me to create a space for the artifacts that I have created and the information that I have obtained. This course allowed a place for me to reflect on how far I have come. |
